I'm Done!!! YEA!!!! (Exercise #23)

What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
My Favorite was the playing with the Comic Strip Generator (exercise #10), and playing with Youtube (exercise #20)!
How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
It has affected my ability to learn new technology that I have never played with before, which was difficult to learn at times!
Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
The Podcasting was the only one other than Technorati that was the most confusing.
What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
Update the instructions, especially Technorati, cause to me it looked like it was out dated.
And last but not least…

If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate?
Of course, offer an Ipod next time!!!! LOL!!

I'm in Overdrive!!!! WAHOOO!!!!! (CRASH!!) (Exercise #22)

I downloaded the overdrive program, and downloaded a Audio book. I noticed right away that you can't upload it to a Ipod. It is in WMA format, so It'll only work in it's own software, or in Windows Media Player. It's pretty ok, but it doesn't have all the titles I want. I will keep using it to see if other titles become available.

Podcasts? Phhttttt!!!! (Exercise #20)

Here is my experiance with podcasting:
I was able to go all the sites, that means iTunes, Podcast Alley, Odeo, Podcast Pickle, and Podnova!

According to the instructions given I was suppose to do this:
"Add the RSS feed for a podcast to your Bloglines account"

Ok, I though, no problem. but NO WEBSITE ALOWS RSS FEEDS! Well take that back. Podcast Pickle does, but IT DOESN'T RSS IT TO BLOGLINES!!!

I was frustrated about this exercise, and I have no plans on using podcasts!!

Youtube (Exercise # 20)

I LOVE Youtube! I can find any video I ever wanted on it! (As long as it's not violating copywright laws) The Video I attached is a Music Video From the band Green Day called "Good Riddance (Time of your life)" Hope you enjoy it!!

g.ho.st (Exercise 19)

I played around, then went to some of my co-worker's blogs. I went to DP's Blog and went to this g.ho.st thing that she was talking about.

G.ho.st is basicly like a portable computer, complete with it's own operating system, you can store up to 5 GB on it's web server, and add additional 1 GB for each friend that you add.

I agree with her that the computer did freeze after you go into the mail part of the program, and I had to reboot it. I am a patience person, so I tried again, and it worked fine. It is in the "alpha" stage of testing, so there will be bugs in it.

The g.ho.st software comes with Zoho included, so you can do Word documents, and Excel documents too!

Once they get the kinks worked out, I highly recommend it to our customers!

I too will be using it too, once they fix the kinks, and bugs!

Web-based Apps (Exercise #18)

I created the below calendar using the Zoho Writer. Maybe I could use this for the monthly program calendar I make for my department, but I wish there were more fonts on here. I use Kristen ITC for my font on my program calendar. I will have to play with it! Also, i wish that they could do bigger table sizes. The biggest were 6X6 square. That's why Sunday's were cut off the calendar.

Here's my calendar!

PBWiki (exercise #17)

This exercise didn't go into much detail with PBWiki. I bet if there were more exercises based on this, maybe I would understand this a little better. But for now, It seemed like I wouldn't use it, unless I have a mass group of friends who want to share the same interests, movies music, etc.

Thanks anywayz!!

So what's in a wiki? (exercise # 16 )

I use Wikipedia almost every day, helping customers.

Let me explain.

When a customer needing help with a particular subject that isn't in our database, I try looking in Wikipedia to get a foundation of what I am to look for, in case I am overlooking something. then I search the internet, now I have a better idea on what I am to find.

So in all, wiki's are a resourceful tool to helping our customers. I do agree on the articles, Wikipedia should never be used to quote your source on a term paper for school!

Library 2.0 & Web 2.0 (Exercise #15 )

I only read this link, and realized what a breakthrough the internet has been through the past 5 to 10 years since I have been playing with computers. When I was first playing with computers-Like the article- I was a "Log on, check email, type a few words, log off" person. Now I spend almost my waking day on it (except when I am tending to my daughter). I am now doing email, myspace, facebook, and doing reference research when I am at work.

Technorati (Exercise #14)

I was confused with this exercise.
It says:

"Take a look at Technorati and try doing a keyword search for “Learning 2.0” in Blog posts, in tags and in the Blog Directory."

I could not find a search to narrow it down by blog post, tags, or in the Blog Directory. It just had the normal search window at the top of the screen.

My opinion, this exercise did not help me at all. The instructions needs to be updated.....

Tagging, and Del.icio.us (Exercise #13)

I personally don't see the point of Del.icio.us. I can still use the bookmarks from my Firefox browser. And they have a plug-in for Firefox where you can take your bookmarks with you and sync them to the web. it is called Foxmarks (www.foxmarks.com) I use them to access my bookmarks from home. I like this way better than Del.icio.us cause you don't have to publish them to the world.

Add a JaxCat Search Gadget (Exercise #12 )

I added this to My blog and to my igoogle. Not sure when it will come in handy. I guess If there is a book I need I can use it without going to the library's website right away.

I'll keep it for now. You never know...

A Thing about LibraryThing (Exercise #11 )

I liked this exercise! I cataloged the books that I am currently reading. I only read Teen Graphic and Teen Manga, and Teen Fiction. I know I am an adult, But I work around teen books all the time, and can't help but read them!!

Here is my Library Thing page:

Play around with Image Generators (exercise #10)

I did the Comic Strip Generator. I love the Simpsons, and I thought this strip would show how much fun it would be to combine them with the Web 2.0 Class.

Enjoy!!!

Finding Feeds (Exercise #9)

As far as which of the 4 "Search for feeds" that was described, i think that Technorati was the easiest to navigate around. Syndic8 and Topix.net was the hardest to navigate. And I could never get Feedster to load at all. It kept timing out on me.

RSS Feeds (JPL2.0 Exercise #8)

I was a little confused at first about how to do this, but after reading the instructions about 10 times, I got it. I never used RSS feeds before, so this is new to me.

Technology

I think technology has gotten advanced over the last 5 years. Look at video games. They are almost life like when you see them. I saw one the other day that looked like a movie, but it was a game ad for the PS3.

Also, I think that cell phones are out of control with the teens here in the library. I think that libraries should have cell phone jammers in them. they aren't too expensive to get.

Just my opinion, I'll stop venting now.

Picture I took overlooking the lake

I took this photo at my step-sister's wedding reception on April 26. 2008. The reception was at this old casino in Augusta, GA. this was taken at the lake that was in the back of the old casino.

I have always been intrigued by photography art, and this was a excellent time of day to do it, cause the sun was about to set (the sun was behind me) the weather was a little cloudy, but good enough that a lot of sky showed in the picture. I liked that a little girl was going down the hill toward the lake, it showed how large the lake is (she is about 8 or 9).

Enjoy!

I feel so stupid!

I accidentally deleted my blog! So I have to start all over! But I didn't get very far! I learned my lesson!

Later!!!

My strenghts and weaknesses
